THE RALEIGH RACQUET CLUB HISTORY

Established on Sepetmber 11 1968, the Raleigh Racquet Club stayed true to its charter.
Here is an exert from the original vision for the club:
... the purpose of the Raleigh Racquet Club is to build and operate the finest tennis and swim club in North Carolina and to provide a tennis center for the City of Raleigh and eastern North Carolina. There are only two clubs of this kind in North Carolina at present - Olde Providence in Charlotte and the Chapel Hill Tennis Club in Chapel Hill.
The primary emphasis of the Club will be to provide superior facilities along with a professionally organized program for the development of competitive skills and for recreational and social enjoyment. The Racquet Club plans to sponsor national, regional, and sectional tournaments. The club facility when fully developed will be the only facility in North Carolina large enough to hold at one site our major state tournaments. Another of our primary objectives will be the development of junior players through a concentrated program of clinics, lessons, and tournaments.

In addition to the tennis facilities and the tennis program, the Club is planning to sponsor swimming teams in city-wide and AAU competition as well as provide the finest in swimming recreation. The initial charter membership ... consists of the members of the Raleigh Tennis Club and all of the tennis leaders from every section of Raleigh. We are extremely proud of our membership and believe that our largest asset lies in the quality of our members.
The Racquet Club is a non-profit membership corporation and as much cannot make or distribute profit. The Racquet Club will be owned and operated exclusively by the membership and will not be leased or operated in conjunction with any real estate developer. The Club site adjoins the City Limits of Raleigh and is located on the east-side of the Falls of Neuse Road approximately one-quarter of a mile north of its intersection with the Millbrook Road and is only three miles north of the Wake Forest Road exit on the Beltline. The initial purchase of the Club is 10.53 acres of land with an option to purchase and additional 15 acres.
